Who We Are

The Student Advocacy Program (SAP) at Lake Tahoe Community College is a community of passionate student leaders, listeners, and changemakers. We believe in the power of student voice to shape a better campus experience not just for some, but for all. Whether you are new to LTCC or nearing graduation, SAP exists to make sure your ideas, concerns, and perspectives are not only heard, but truly valued.

What We Do

SAP is a student-led initiative dedicated to creating a more inclusive, supportive, and responsive college environment. Our team works directly with students, staff, and administration to bridge the gap between student experiences and institutional action. We listen to what students care about, academic stress, access to resources, mental health, equity, safety, and more and we work together to drive meaningful solutions.

One of the key ways we support students is by helping them address concerns with professors or classroom experiences. Through our confidential complaint submission page, students can safely report issues or conflicts they may be facing. SAP then works with campus leadership to ensure these concerns are heard, documented, and appropriately addressed. By creating a space where students can speak up without fear of retaliation, we help make sure everyone's academic experience is respectful, fair, and empowering.

From organizing listening sessions to proposing policy changes, SAP turns student voices into real, measurable change on campus.

Why It Matters

College is about more than classes, it is about connection, community, and a sense of belonging. But those things do not just happen on their own. At LTCC, too many students still feel unseen, unheard, or unsupported. That is why SAP exists. We are here to help ensure that every student regardless of background, identity, or experience has the opportunity to thrive. When students feel empowered to speak up and participate in shaping their environment, our entire campus becomes stronger, more compassionate, and more effective.

Beyond college, the ability to advocate for yourself is essential in the workplace, in relationships, and in life. SAP offers students a platform to practice those skills in real time: speaking up, organizing solutions, and navigating systems of power. Being part of SAP prepares you to confidently face challenges and make your voice heard in any setting. It is not just about improving LTCC, it is about building lifelong tools for leadership, equity, and personal empowerment.

How We Help

We support students in three key ways: listening, advocating, and acting. First, we listen through surveys, one-on-one conversations, town halls, and open forums. Then we advocate meeting with college leadership, presenting student perspectives, and creating opportunities for dialogue and transparency. Finally, we act by turning student input into action plans, projects, and policies that improve life on campus.

Whether it is advocating for more mental health resources, improving classroom experiences, addressing student-professor conflicts, or making the campus more inclusive, SAP helps create a space where students feel safe and supported.
